इस परीक्षा में भर्ती की प्रक्रिया निम्न तीन चरणों में पूरी की जाती हैं।

1. Tier-I: लिखित परीक्षा (वस्तुनिष्ठ बहुविकल्पीय प्रकार)
2. Tier-II: मुख्य लिखित परीक्षा (वस्तुनिष्ठ बहुविकल्पीय प्रकार)
3. Tier-III: व्यक्तित्व परीक्षण / साक्षात्कार या कौशल परीक्षण, जहाँ लागू हो
   
   सीपीओ में उप-निरीक्षक के पद के लिए चयन करने वाले उम्मीदवारों को Tier- I के परिणाम की घोषणा के बाद Physical Endurance Test (PET)/Medical Examination को पास करना होगा।

1 . इसमें चार खंड शामिल है – सामान्य बुद्धिमत्ता और तर्क, सामान्य जागरूकता, मात्रात्मक रूझान, अंग्रेजी समझ

• Tier -1 परीक्षा वस्तुनिष्ठ प्रकार की होगी। प्रश्नपत्र हिंदी और इंगिलश दोनों भाषा में होगा केवल English Comprehension के प्रश्नपत्र को छोड़कर।

SSC CGL टियर 1 अंकन योजना नीचे दी गई है।

सही प्रश्न के लिए अंक	2 अंक
गलत प्रश्न के लिए अंक	0.50 अंक

• इस कंप्यूटर आधारित परीक्षा में कुल 4 खंड होंगे। जिसमे कुल 100 प्रश्नों को शामिल किया जायेगा। प्रत्येक सही उत्तर के लिए 2 अंक मिलेंगे और गलत होने पर 0.50 अंको की कटौती की जाएगी
• कंप्यूटर आधारित परीक्षा (CBE) में प्रश्‍न मैट्रिक स्तर (Matric Level) के होंगे।
• प्रश्न वस्तुनिष्ठ तथा बहुविकल्पीय प्रकार के होंगें।

Tier -2 में तीन Paper होंगें

1. Paper-I: Section 1+ Section 2+Section 3 (Compulsory for all posts)
2. Paper-II: Junior Statistical Officer (JSO)
3. Paper-III: Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer

Number Systems: Computation of Whole Number, Decimal and Fractions, Relationship between numbers. Fundamental arithmetical operations: Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest (Simple and Compound), Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Alligation, Time and distance, Time and work.

Algebra: Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra and Elementary surds (simple problems) and Graphs of Linear Equations.

Geometry: Familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts: Triangle and its various kinds of centers, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles.

Mensuration: Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square Base.

Trigonometry: Trigonometry, Trigonometric ratios, Complementary angles, Height and distances (simple problems only)

Statistics and probability: Use of Tables and Graphs: Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar-diagram, Pie-chart; Measures of central tendency: mean, median, mode, standard deviation; calculation of simple probabilities.

Working with Internet and e-mails: Web Browsing & Searching, Downloading & Uploading, Managing an E-mail Account, EBanking.

Basics of networking and cyber security: Networking devices and protocols, Network and information security threats (like hacking, virus, worms, Trojan etc.) and preventive measures.
